First Time Buyer

December 9, 2024 By: Kim Mortensen, KM Design v/Kim Mortensen (Randers NV, Denmark)

Comments
All the knowledge I could want in a small book, well two books, since I also bought the Fasterners book.

Pros
Great quality, and it will be used in my small shop. I am not an engineer at all, but the material, and knowledge in these books are incredible.

Anything I need to know in the palm of my hands

December 5, 2024 By: L. Boogie (Immokalee, United States)

Comments
Entered a trade school and got this book a while back and it has been extremely useful throughout schooling and just read random sections from time to time.

Pros
Goes pretty in depth with types of metals and materials. The entire book is well organized and with the red tabs makes it easier to access on the fly what I may be looking for.

Cons
I wish it had more on threading as I sometimes make treads that I can’t find in the book from time to time.

Great info!

Awesome even for the mechanical trades out there

Pros
Lots of new things to warn here and made me even consider completing some sort of engineering trade. Made remembering the formulas easier aswell

Cons
Something are grouped in an odd way. Also did not have a lot of information on types of gears and their pros and cons. Would have been cool if they had basics to using workshop equipment too

Great resource

November 24, 2024 By: Tony Zuiderwyk, Tzed Metal Fabrication & Restorations (Narre Warren North, Australia)

Comments
A great resource to have at hand in the workshop.

Pros
More convenient to have and to quickly find information than the Machinery's Handbook (or in all the folders of paper I have or the internet). The section on TC inserts is very thorough and really useful, as I never remember all the codes. The thread section is also pretty comprehensive; pleased to see the tapered threads were included.

Cons
The index at the back is listed at quite a high level. Was surprised that aluminium grade 5005 was not listed anywhere; this quite a common rolled sheet grade here. It would be good have the weights and specs of SHS and RHS steel included with the tubes and solid sections.

Has a lot of great info for newer shop guys.

Pros

Cons
Sometimes I felt like things were grouped together in an odd order but once you get used to the placement of the information it was fine.

Small Book, So Much Information

October 27, 2024 By: Chad Kerin (Tanah Merah, Australia)

Comments
Quite amazed at the amount of information that can fit in one little book.

Pros
Has a lot of information that is hard to find if you don't know where to look.

Cons
Doesn't have as much information on titanium as I was hoping for, but I guess it's not as common of a workshop metal as the rest.

EBB Third Ed - BB

October 8, 2024 By: Brett Bacon, Sulzer Pumps (US) Inc (Chickamauga, United States)

Comments
10/10. Good size, feel, and paper quality. Easy to read and color coded. Just enough info for broad general purpose without bogging down with too much technical information. Very useful with beginning engineering work, very helpful explanations of differing material classifications.

Pros
Good cost vs. quality
Easy to read (big font, colorful)
Useful tabs
Easy to clean

Cons
The only problems were I had to "break" apart each page when i first got it (no big deal, is probably a side affect of page material), there is also an extra line on "blue finish" box on pg 176.

Trusted by experienced machinists, helpful reference for beginners

October 7, 2024 By: Craig Bonsignore, MedRes International (Carlsbad, United States)

Comments
Recommended by machining instructor in an introductory lathe class. His was well worn and clearly a constant companion. Ordered a copy on the spot and read cover to cover, which clarified many topics which I had not previously fully understood

Pros
Convenient size, well organized and printed on durable material, comprehensive.

Cons
Seemed expensive when placing the order, but after receiving and reviewing the book, the price is justified by its quality.

Machinist

Comments
Lots of great information

Pros
Easy to find Information

Excellent resource

October 4, 2024 By: Steve (WILLENHALL, United Kingdom)

Comments
As a hobby machinist, this is an excellent resource for pretty much everything I will ever need. Conversion charts, speeds and feeds, pictorial descriptions of various fixings, indexing chart and tapping drill sizes plus much more.
I still have my 30 year old "Zeus" data chart book that was issued to me as an apprentice, but this is much clearer and contains way more information.

Pros
Wipe clean pages a bonus when working in an oily environment

Cons
None I can think of
