Engineers Black Book

July 24, 2021 By: Excited (Regency Downs, Australia)

Comments
I heard about this book on tik tok and had to get one. Can't wait to dive in and look through it.

Pros
Neat pocket sized. Anything you can think of is in the book. Excellent printing, a very professional looking book. For leaving a website review I will be sent 2 charts which I am very grateful.

Cons
I was hoping it came with a free drill point sharpening gauge but it didn't.

Wonderful Resource

July 23, 2021 By: Jon Y. (Naperville, United States)

Comments
I received this book as a gift and look forward to really diving in to it. I'm always looking up formulas(ae?) at work, often for metal cutting. It will be helpful to have this resource at an arm's reach!

Pros
The coating on the pages is great for a dirty environment. I also appreciate the focus on metal cutting information.

Cons
I wish the tabs had inked lines where the designers intended for them to go. I would like to have them, but I'm too picky to try and space them myself and have them look good.

This book is the sharpest tool in my shop

July 20, 2021 By: Aaron Burstein, amberstone studios (Cape Town, South Africa)

Comments
This book has guided me through every operation on my machine tools, helped me choose the best tooling for the shop, select fasteners and dimension the workpiece to accept them, the list goes on and on. It has been the foremost reference source in my learning journey.

Pros
A complete reference book for all workshop and engineering needs.
Full of sizing charts, reference tables, conversion tables and pictorial explanations of common engineering components and practices.
Bomb proof pages, grease proof and tear-proof.
Opens flat on the table.
Fits in your pocket, bag or toolbox.

Cons
Could use a more comprehensive heat treatment section, especially for hardening common tool steels used for tooling in the workshop.

Large Work Bench Edition

June 21, 2021 By: Dustin (Hammonton, United States)

Comments
Large Work Bench Edition - 3rd Edition

Even though they took away the gage and added clothing to the engineer man on the cover, I figured I'd take a shot at having this book on my desk as a quick reference. There is a lot of handy information within. You may need to overlook an odd sentence or an error here and there. Either way, at the end of the day, it's a neat book to have at your disposal.

Pros
-Lots of general information at your fingertips.
-Full color.
-Pages seem durable and easily wipe clean.
-Anti-glare works nicely under a shop light.
-Looks good on the desk (makes you look official).
-Large Work Bench Edition is easy to read and handle.
-Charts and images make it very convenient.
-The "Lay Flat Format" keeps your spot.

Cons
-I question how true "Actual Size" statements are with varying copy sizes.
-Page 50 calls out "HSS Step Drill" twice when on is a countersinking drill bit.
-The lack of a drill bit gauge is saddening; especially at the cost.
-A few errors with formulas and other references here and there.
-Heavy on some subjects while light on others.
-Google is typically a faster solution.
