Nice effort

November 8, 2019 By: Bob Thornton (Skipton, Australia)

Comments
This is a good effort, only marked down as the advertising suggested [to me] that the drill gauge was included.

Pros
A great effort at a big field, nice touch including "standard people" p210.

Cons
Binding a bit tight. Possible inclusion of formulae for any regular polygon...
N = the number of sides, S = the length of each side, R = the radius of a circle through the points (circumscribed), r = the radius of the enclosed (inscribed) circle.
Where α=180/N, R=S/(2sinα) or r/cosα, S=2R x sinα or 2r x tanα, and r=(S x cotα)/2 or R x cosα would improve the content ?

Perfect Reference

Easy to read and find information as needed. Great for those just starting out to those who just need a quick reference for little used charts.

Pros
Wide ranging for multiple professions.
Teaches as well as informs.

Cons
Would like to see more information about hydraulics/coupling types etc.

Awesome

October 29, 2019 By: Jason Churchill, Cypress Technologies (Leander, United States)

Comments
This book was better than I anticipated. The one thing I truly appreciate it is the Carbide Insert Applications page as it's not always easy to remember what inserts can do what type of machining and this section makes it virtually impossible to choose the wrong inserts.

Pros
Easy to Understand
Sturdy and made for the shop floor
A good selection of knowlege

Cons
Not as in depth as I would have liked

Sorry to be negative but...

October 12, 2019 By: John (Alberton, South Africa)

Comments
I paid over R700 for this book, from the official distributor, and I just don't think I'll be turning to it very often. But we'll see.

Pros
It's compact, and covers a wide range of topics.

Sometimes information isn't easy to find online because you're not familiar with the terminology - the book form removes that obstacle.

If I was going to keep the book handy, there are several sections that are useful pocket references, like the conversion tables, the bending allowances, the speeds and feeds, etc.

Cons
It's lacking in both scope and depth. Take the metals comparison table, for example: Only 3 alloys of Al are mentioned, they're not named, and there's no reference to Young's Modulus, which is an essential design consideration. The "Plastics", "Solvents" and "Adhesives" sections seem to gloss over the topic - engineers need specifics as well as descriptions.

Some sections ("Brass" and "Adhesives") haven't been translated from gibberish to metric.

I'm never quite sure what's verbatim to a standard and derived from a standard, particularly regarding unit conversions.

Pros
Good size. Clear. No "empty" pages. Good exambles.

Cons
Some information is multiple times on pages. I didn't find some information clearly, like press fit dimensions etc.
