A Must Have

January 1, 2022 By: Darrin, IRMEC (Mudgee, Australia)

Comments
A great compilation of practical information.

Pros
So great to be able to quickly access even the simple frequently required things such as bolt torques and drilling / tapping information without having to Web search (and possibly landing on something inaccurate).

Cons
Nothing worth a mention.

Handy book, would love localisation

December 28, 2021 By: Alex (Adelaide, Australia)

Comments
Comprehensive information, missing some details

Pros
Tab stickers so you can choose what to bookmark

Cons
Adult Physical Dimensions refer only to male dimensions, so are lacking 50% of relevant data. The small operator dimensions are unreliable as small female operators are smaller than small male operators.
The metric book contains a number of ASME standards. I would love if there were local versions, eg. an Australian version containing Australian drawing standards. Or at least use ISO standards everywhere.

Great book for home machinist

December 27, 2021 By: Martin Osvald (Bratislava, Slovakia)

Comments
Overall great book, would recommend/buy again.

Pros
Great carbide insert identification chart. Lot of usefull calculation charts.

Cons
Few minor details:
It might be too much but I would appreciate bearing chart.
What I know, the statement tahat 7075 aluminium is weldable is wrong (page 152).
I did not find 1.4301 stainless stell in comparsion table (page 159), found AISI 304 as 1.4350, but in europe, we usually use 1.4301 as coparsion to AISI 304.

A book no shop should be without.

December 25, 2021 By: Rodney A Korn, K5 Studios (Woodinville , United States)

Comments
The book contains a huge reference of data for the shop. It came with tabs to quickly find sections I use a lot. Being able to use this in the shop will make many tasks easier. For example finding the right drill for a tap is a snap.

Pros
Grease proof paper!
Quick lookup page tabs.
Just about every conversion table you will ever need in the shop.
Even gas an interesting section on how engineering began.

Cons
I think I found an error in the text on page 76 at the bottom. The last example shows a result of 14 deg. 2 min. 10 sec. But I think the example should be 26deg 33 min 54sec.

Engineers Black Book

December 25, 2021 By: Brent Hoyle (Hamilton, New Zealand)

Comments
Excellent book.
Worth the money whether you're a qualified engineer or a trainee or a DIY/self-taught engineer.
Contains all the relevant info (and more) that you'll need in a regular job in a practical book that is easy to use with non-marking pages, index and spiral bound.
Def recommend!
Practically like an engineering course for those who want to teach themselves!

Pros
As mentioned, matt gloss finish pages are perfect for a working person with oil, lubricants and general engineering muck around.
Spiral bound means you don't have to fight the book spine to try and read the info you need.
Excellent table of contents means you can quickly find what you need.
Metric and Imperial cross-references make it something like priceless for those of us who work with equipment in both systems!

Cons
Well... I'm struggling to come up with any.
I got the pocket book which fits into a pocket like it should but for someone who has any challenges with small text/reading, then this book is probably a bit small.

Black Book 3rd edition

December 24, 2021 By: Joel Salers (Albertville , United States)

Wife purchased as an early Christmas gift

Pros
I love the pocket size, perfect for tool box drawer and to carry between work and home for quick reference

Cons
I wish each section already had a page divider, it’s not a major turn off though

Black Book 3rd Edition, Metric.

December 22, 2021 By: Sean. (Selston, United Kingdom)

Comments
Overall very useful reference for me as a hobbyist.

Pros
Lots of information on various topics.
Compact but readable package.
Dual unit tables are useful.
Appears to be fairly durable.

Cons
Disappointed to not find a selection of tables giving thread tolerances. A single common fit tolerance would be fine to enable easy reference.
